Fun Things to Do in the Summer Without Alcohol

On a warm summer weekend or a day off, we often think about sitting back in the garden or a park and enjoying a cold beer or a cocktail. But what else can you do to enjoy the summertime and summer sun without the need for booze? Here are nine fun summer things to do that are completely free from alcohol.

1.A Day Trip

If you have a free summer’s day what better thing to do than go on a day trip? The UK is full of beautiful nature, lovely beaches and cute towns. So why not take a day out to explore somewhere you’ve never been before? You could take a hike, take a towel and lie on the beach, or enjoy ambling through pretty towns whilst eating fudge.

2.Rent Kayaks or Bicycles

If you want to explore the countryside but don’t feel like walking, then you could rent kayaks or bicycles. That way you can explore the countryside by river and canal or by bike path.

If that sounds like a bit too much effort for you, you can always rent a motorised boat or an e-bike. These take any effort out of exploring so you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery and a different mode of transport.

3.Go to a Museum

On a rainy summer's day, there is one thing to do and that is head to a museum. The UK is filled with incredible museums and art galleries that are completely free to visit.

So go to your local museum, or travel elsewhere to learn something new. London has so many amazing museums for people of all ages, whether you want to check out the art at the Tate Gallery or enjoy the dinosaur exhibition at the Natural History Museum.

Outside of London, there are plenty of great museums too. Try the Black Country Museum where you can experience life in the Black Country between the 1940s-60s, enjoy the magnificent boats at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard or enjoy the art at sculptures at the Ashmolean in Oxford.

4.Enjoy an Outdoor Film Screening

During the summer in the UK, there are an increasing number of film screenings or live performances outside. So look up your local park or gardens and see what you can find. That way you can enjoy a film or music whilst also enjoying the evening warmth all summer long.

5.Go Swimming

On a very hot summer’s day, all you want to do is submerge yourself in cold water. So pack your bag and head out to a swimming spot to enjoy the sun and have a dip in the water. You can either swim at your local open-air lido or, if not, find a nice spot on the river, at a lake to swim in. Better still, head to the beach and enjoy the sand and the sun!

6.Go On an Extravagant Picnic

Are you a foodie? Then why not plan an extravagant picnic? You can go traditional and bring all the foods that you would expect at something like the teddy bear’s picnic. Think cucumber sandwiches, scotch eggs and fairy cakes. Or let your imagination go wild to create a delicious spread somewhere in your garden, the park or out in nature. Think quiche, burritos, mini pizzas, or anything you can imagine.

7.Read a Book in the Sun

So maybe you don’t want to rush about on your day off, and you’d rather relax in the sun. Then easy, pick a good book, find a spot of sun and ready your book with an iced coffee or an alcohol-free drink.

8.Roast Marshmallows on a BBQ

Summer sun means barbecues. And there is nothing that feels quite as summery and fun as roasting marshmallows on a BBQ. You seriously never get too old to enjoy a roasted marshmallow. So get out the BBQ or fire pit, make a good campfire and start roasting those marshmallows on sticks.

Whilst you have a campfire going you might as well make the most of it. You can tell stories around the fire, pick up a guitar and have a sing-song, or just chat and enjoy each other’s company.

9.Make Alcohol-Free Cocktails

A great way to enjoy the summer’s sun is with a refreshing alcohol-free cocktail. So gather some friends or family, find your ingredients and start making alcohol-free cocktails together. You can choose something simple and delicious like a long Everleaf and Tonic, or go for something more complex and summery like an alcohol-free Aviation.

Making alcohol-free cocktails with friends is a great way to bond authentically and taste-test a range of alcohol-free products.
