5 Alcohol-Free Drinks During The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

“It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming”. There is nothing like watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup with a delicious, cold beverage. But this year’s world cup is in Australia and New Zealand, so they tend to kick off at 9:30 am. A little early for an alcoholic drink. But fear not! You can still enjoy a delicious alcohol-free cocktail whilst you cheer the Lionesses all the way to victory.

So here are five Lionesses-inspired alcohol-free drinks to enjoy whilst watching England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Millie’s Mojito

Millie Bright stepped up as captain for the Lionesses just in time for the 2023 FIFA World Cup. She considers this a “massive, massive honour”. So to honour Millie here is an alcohol-free Mojito with strawberries.

Ingredients

  • Juice of lime

  • 1tsp granulated sugar

  • Small handful strawberries

  • 2 shots of Marie Laveau alcohol-free white rum

  • Soda water

Method

  1. Muddle the strawberries, lime juice, mint leaves and sugar in the bottom of a tall glass.

  2. Add some ice and alcohol-free rum.

  3. Top with soda water.

  4. Garnish with mint leaves. Slice a strawberry into four rectangles and make a cross on top to represent the English flag.

Mary Earps’ Bloody Mary

Mary Earps is the Lionesses' fantastic goalkeeper and vice-captain. She is a powerhouse player and is loudly voicing the need for gender equality in football. So to celebrate such a great player on and off the field let’s make a delicious alcohol-free Bloody Mary.

Ingredients

  • 1 shot of alcohol-free vodka

  • 250 ml tomato juice

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Tabasco

  • Worcestershire sauce (or the vegan equivalent)

  • Salt & Pepper

  • A celery stick

Method

  1. Add ice, alcohol-free vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, salt, and pepper into a shaker.

  2. Add a dash of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce to taste

  3. Shake very gently so it doesn’t become frothy on top. Then strain the cocktail into a glass with ice.

  4. Add salt and pepper to taste and then garnish with a celery stick.

Ginger French 75

Keira Walsh has been named one of the England football team's top players. She plays as a midfielder for the Lionesses and also for Barcelona. Her nickname on the pitch is Ginger. So to celebrate Walsh’s contribution to “bringing it home” why not sip on a Ginger French 75?

Ingredients

  • 1 shot  New London First Light alcohol-free gin

  • 1/2 shot of lemon juice

  • 1 tsp honey

  • 1/2 shot GIMBER

  • Alcohol-free sparkling wine or champagne

Method

  1. Chill all your ingredients.

  2. Add the alcohol-free gin, lemon juice, honey and Gimber into a chilled champagne glass.

  3. Top with alcohol-free champagne or sparkling wine.

  4. Garnish with lemon.

Gin Blush Tea Bellini

Lauren James is one of the newest additions to the Lionesses. She joined the England team in 2022 and is making her biggest international debut for the FIFA World Cup 2023. But teammates, coaches and critics are already calling her the secret weapon and the cheat code to winning the 2023 women’s World Cup.

Whilst her football skills are outstanding James claims that she cannot cook at all, and fellow teammates have called her out on her tea-making abilities. So here is a tea-based alcohol-free cocktail that might be easier to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 shot New London First Light alcohol-free gin

  • 1 tbsp tinned peaches

  • Peony Blush Sparkling Tea

Method

  1. Muddle the peaches in the bottom of a chilled glass.

  2. Add in the alcohol-free gin and then top with peony Blush Sparkling Tea.

  3. Garnish with a slice of peach.

Dutch Coffee

Sarina Weigman is the highly acclaimed manager of the Lionesses. She has coached the English Women’s football team to earlier success in the 2022 UEFA European Championships. But despite managing the English team Sarina Wiegman is actually Dutch and was born in the Dutch city of The Hague (Den Haag). So here is a tasty Dutch coffee to help wake you up for the morning footie.

Ingredients

  • 1 shot of alcohol-free Jenever (alcohol-free gin works if you cannot find alcohol-free Jenever)

  • 1 cup brewed coffee

  • Nutmeg

Method

  1. Make a cup of coffee, and add milk and sugar to taste.

  2. Add in a shot of alcohol-free jenever (or gin).

  3. Sprinkle with nutmeg or speculaas spices.

  4. Add a Lotus biscuit on the side for the real Dutch experience.
