Nine Top Tips to Enjoy Music Festivals Whilst Sober

Summer is the season of music festivals and there are still a lot of great festivals coming up. Maybe your festival experience used to be filled with booze, but you now drink less or nothing at all. Well, not to worry, musical festivals are great fun whether you choose to drink alcohol or not. But here are nine top tips to enjoy a musical festival whilst sober or drinking mindfully.

Listen to the Music You Find Great

It’s not always easy to get into the festival vibe when are listening to music that you don’t enjoy. So make sure to listen to the music and watch the acts that you find great. Maybe it means splitting up with your friends sometimes. But you are guaranteed to have a blast at any festival where you prioritise watching your favourite acts. Great music will put you straight into the festival vibe, no alcohol is needed.

Find a Fellow Sober Friend

If you are attending a festival with (often boozy) friends it can help to invite a fellow non-drinker. That way you don’t end up having to take care of all your drunk friends. When it all gets too much you and your fellow sober buddy can head off and find fun elsewhere. It means that you are able to enjoy the festival experience with somebody on a similar wavelength to you!

Hit the Sober Tent

Festivals are beginning to clock onto the alcohol-free movement. That means there are an increasing number of sober tents, sober bars, or sober options at festivals and events. So if you are looking to enjoy a nice refreshing, adult drink, then you can hit the sober tent. Take a look at what alcohol-free options they have to offer.

In a similar vein, some festivals now offer sober campsites too. That means that you can pitch your tent away from the drunken chaos of other campsites. You might even get some refreshing sleep.

Decide Beforehand How Much You Will Drink (If you choose to drink)

If you do choose to drink at a festival make sure to set yourself a realistic alcohol limit. That way you won't get carried away drinking. A great way to keep yourself hydrated is to drink an alcohol-free drink or water between each alcoholic drink.

By setting yourself a limit on alcohol you will help keep your body healthy. You'll likely save a lot of money on expensive festival drinks too! That sounds like a win-win to me.

Take Care of Yourself

The best way to have a good time at any festival is to make sure you care for yourself. Make sure that you have eaten enough, had enough to drink and slept for long enough. That way you can be fully present at the festival. It will help you really enjoy the experience without feeling under the weather.

Dance As Wildly As You Like

The great thing about being in a space where lots of people are drunk is that you can get away with all sorts. So crack out your wildest dance moves and dance like no one is looking. What is more fun than dancing your heart out with no fear of being judged? Let loose because people will either forget your dance moves or assume you are drunk anyway!

Be Okay With Leaving Before Those Who Drink

If you are attending the festival with a group of friends who are drinking you might get tired and want to leave before them. Make peace with that, after all, quality over quantity will give you a better festival experience. The reality is that when sober you can feel your body's tired signals whilst drunk people may not. But you aren’t going to miss out on much. You will just feel better rested and be more ready to take on the next day after a good sleep!

Enjoy Your Hangover-Free Festival Mornings

The best thing about not drinking at a festival? You won’t wake up feeling exhausted and hungover. Instead, you will be able to sit there feeling very smug about the fact that you had a good time and you don't have to suffer for it!

So you can really make the most of your hangover-free mornings. Pop to the showers before the queues, head out and find a proper breakfast somewhere nearby, or simply lie outside your tent in the sun and laugh at your friend’s self-inflicted suffering!

Plan Which Alcohol-Free Drinks You Will Enjoy Instead

If you want to have something exciting to drink whilst at the festival, make sure to plan the alcohol-free drinks you want to enjoy beforehand. Maybe you want to buy a range of ready-to-drink alcohol-free beverages, or you might choose to go fancy and bring the ingredients to make your own alcohol-free cocktails. Whatever you choose, get excited about enjoying great music with delicious alcohol-free drinks.
