3 ways to garnish your drink - to impress

Because both you and your drink deserve it!

Have you ever thrown together a drink, in a rubbish glass, without a care? I don’t know why I am asking the question, we’ve all done that.

But whether you are having a drink by yourself or with company, there’s nothing enjoyable about a thrown together one.

To have your favourite glass, your favourite drink and a GARNISH! Oh my, what a garnish can do. It can be fresh, it can be dried, it can be on the edge of a glass, it can be right on in there - but having a lonely glass without its garnish friend is just a sorry sight. Just because it is alcohol free, does not mean you need to compromise the taste and look of your drink.

We have put together three ways to garnish your cocktail, because that’s what we’re here for - plus you can totally have some fun with it.

1 - Bish, bash, bosh.

Have some dried fruit on hand in your drinks cupboard or on your drinks trolley and pop a slice or two on top of your drink. Think about the flavours and what will compliment the drink the best. The drink itself might recommend what garnish to use. If you like fresh fruit/herbs, get them involved. Rosemary is a wonderful garnish - pull a sprig and poke it down the side of your glass so you can see it and enjoy whilst you are sipping (plus it won’t get in the way down there).

2 - I could take 5 minutes.

Here, we are going to make a twist of citrus peel. Hold the citrus against the citrus peeler and press, rolling your hand in a circle. You will now have a long strip of peel. Slice off the edges so they are straight on either side, and trim the ends to a diagonal. You can now either place the peel in your drink, you can put a pick in the middle of the peel or you can wrap it round a large ice cube.

3 - Am I a bartender or what?

We’re taking things one step further. The orange peel that we created earlier is now turning into something else. Create whatever pattern you would like with a sharp knife (a bit like a Christmas snowflake and carefully for goodness sakes) and pin the peel to the glass with a little peg.
