August welcomed the first ever JOMO Club Box. It marked a milestone, it brought people together, and well, what a box it was. 

JOMO’s August 2021 alcohol-free box brought Colombia to our homes. The alcohol-free spirit was born out of a vibrant Colombian heritage and a happy childhood experimenting with drink concoctions, along with the Colombian snacks, Colombian themed Cocktail of the Month and colourful members magazine. Opening the box was certainly a moment to remember.

Caleño Drinks brought the spirit

The August Box included both Caleño’s Light & Zesty and Dark & Spicy spirit. Light & Zesty is a lively blend of Inca Berry, pineapple, coriander, juniper berry, green cardamom & lemon peel, paired best with tonic over ice. Dark & Spicy is a rich bench of pineapple, coconut, ginger, black cardamom, vanilla, kola nut and lime, paired best with soda and fresh lime or ginger ale. Maybe you have a favourite or maybe you don’t have to choose. 

Ellie Webb, Founder of Caleño’s dream is to show people you don’t need alcohol to have a great time. Their mission over the next couple of years is to help create more moments of joy!

Double Dutch

Skinny Tonic, Soda and Double Lemon

Do they need an introduction? We certainly will be giving them one. Double Dutch create their mixers using molecular pairings, sharing ingredients and key aromas to create their combinations. The combinations come from the same family and have many of the same flavour profiles in common. We are talking Pomegranate & Basil and Cucumber & Watermelon.

Double Dutch don’t use any artificial flavourings and less cane sugar in their Skinny Tonic meaning around half the calories and sugar of their Indian Tonic. It has a hint of juniper and grapefruit creating a dry taste with some citric and earthy flavour profiles. 

Founders and sisters Joyce and Raissa De Haas, raised in the Netherlands created Double Dutch after being frustrated by the bland mixers in the market and seeing room for innovation.

Our August 2021 Perfect Serve 

Full of flavour, personality and joy, Caleño’s Light & Zesty is a perfect match for Double Dutch’s Skinny Tonic. Caleño garnish with an Inca berry, we pair with a kumquat but feel free to pair with a tropical fruit - think pineapple, mango, pomegranate, papaya - or perhaps just a grapefruit would suit nicely.

Organic Grapefruit and Kumquat Garnish

Organic, beautifully dried fruit that is sustainably packed. This month saw a bag of grapefruit and kumquat garnish. The grapefruit was paired with our perfect serve ‘Caleño and Double Dutch’ and the kumquat was paired with the ‘Cocktail of the Month - Cartagena Collins.’

Founder, Sarah Roads takes individual care with her garnishes and her passion shines through as we have never seen garnishes like them (we have a personal stash always on our drinks trolley!)

Cocktail of the Month

Cartagena Collins

Colombian themed this months’ cocktail is full of zest, flavour, colour and ay, ay, ayyyy! 

The Cocktail of the Month mixes Caleño’s Light & Zesty with Double Dutch’s Double Lemon for a vibrant and perfectly-balanced cocktail incorporating the personality of Colombia in every sip. Garnish with kumquats and mint if you wish and enjoy! 

The JOMO Club ingredient cards are a gift that keep on giving - they are seeded. Moisten, added to a pot with a few mm of soil and watch them grow.

Loro Plantain Crisps

A Colombian favourite where they sell them on the side of the road and the parrots can’t keep their hands off them have finally made their way over here and into a JOMO Box no less. Founders, Natalia and Daniela set up Loro Crisps after moving to the UK and wanting to share their passion for plantain with the world. 

Their crisps are sourced authentically from Colombia so you can taste the real thing in every bite.

Aperitif Spritz

Aperitivo Hour came to JOMO this month - and it was in a can! But read on dear reader.. Thomas Teetotal has created a bar quality Italian-style bittersweet aperitif spritz to be enjoyed at anytime. Founder of Thomas Tipple thought there was a big disconnect between what was being served at bars and what's available on supermarket shelves. He thought the quality was poor, the ingredients were cheap and artificial and he wanted to offer a bar quality cocktail in a convenient format - and that is exactly what he did, and our members got to experience it.
