What Is Sober Spring And How Can You Join?

Did you complete Dry January? Or maybe you missed the boat but would like to try a new dry challenge? Then Sober Spring might be a great challenge for you. This is a three-month sober challenge. It can help you re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol, and embrace any sober curiosity you might have!

What is Sober Spring?

Sober Spring is described as your “three-month sober sabbatical”. It is a three-month sober challenge created by the Sober Girls Society. This can be the perfect follow-up to Dry January.

Use the spring to take a bit of distance from alcohol and break any alcohol-related habits that you might have. It can also be a great way to kick-start your new, alcohol-free lifestyle. All of this with the help of an entire community of other people trying the Sober Spring Dry Challenge.

When is Sober Spring?

Officially Sober Spring runs for three months from March 20th to June 20th. However there is no official rule saying that you must start exactly on March 20th, so if you find out about it a little late, or only decide to join after the start date that is no problem.

At the end of the day, dry challenges are more about the personal outcome of renegotiating your relationship with alcohol and taking a step back from it, than about not drinking between some exact dates.

Who is Sober Spring For?

Sober Spring is perfect for people who are Sober Curious and want to explore an alcohol-free lifestyle. It gives you the chance to experiment with the positive effects of being alcohol-free, without the pressure to go fully sober.

Sober Spring can also be the perfect opportunity for grey area drinkers to have a break from drinking and try to rebalance their relationship with alcohol.

Who Runs Sober Spring?

Sober Spring is hosted and organised by Alcohol Change UK (the same people behind Dry January) and the Sober Girls Society.

It was originally created and launched by Catherine Grey, author of The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober in 2018, and since then has been growing in popularity, as the mindful drinking and sober curious movements grow.

Each year these groups and maybe sober influencers, podcasters and authors help host the Sober Spring event and provide regular motivation for people who are attempting the dry challenge.

How Can You Sign Up For Sober Spring?

If you are looking to take part in Sober Spring you absolutely do not need to sign up anywhere or for anything. This is something you can do for free without even telling anyone.

That being said, you can choose to sign up on the Alcohol Change UK website. This will let you get access to weekly motivational emails and a community of other people attempting the challenge. By telling other people that you are taking up the challenge you are more likely to stick to it as you feel accountable to others. So signing up can be really helpful.
