Bringing conscious to our snacking

How we can continue to eat chocolate, without negatively impacting our world.

Oh chocolate - I love it, my mum loves it, my niece loves it and you probably love it. Consumer choice in the chocolate industry is quite something with so many brands to choose from. As with many things however, increased demand for something can bring negative consequences.

We are hearing and seeing more about the distressing deforestation crisis with palm oil being a contributing factor and a number of chocolate brands still using palm oil as an ingredient in their products. In addition, unfair cocoa farmer labour is still an issue allowing our chocolate to be so cheap!

Chocolate has always been popular, with cacao beans being used as a currency in the times of the ancient Mayans and Aztecs! They were in such high demand, people would make counterfeit beans from clay.

With today’s issues becoming more widely known, consumers are able to make a more conscious choice to the chocolate they are picking on the shelves (along with other goods too!)

So, what do we want to be looking out for?

  1. Palm oil - check the label.

  2. Ethics - unfair labour.

  3. Ingredients - the fewer the better.

One brand supporting all three of these - one Colombian cocoa bean at a time - is Doisy & Dam.

They’re colourful, they’re palm oil free, they’re paying cocoa farmers fairly, they’re committed to making products with less sugar and they never compromise on the quality of their ingredients.

If you haven’t come across Doisy & Dam yet or tried their chocolate, here are a few favourites.. Buttons (you can’t beat a classic?!) and their D&D’s - dark chocolate drops with a crunchy coating.

They also have some wonderful flavoured bars - maple toasted rice & pink salt dark chocolate and a goji & orange dark.

And last but absolutely not least, Chocolate & Almond or Hazelnut Nuttercups - what’s better than rich nut butter coated in lashings of 58% dark chocolate… turns out, nothing!

Plus, we’re a sucker for nice packaging and Doisy & Dam’s bright, matte wrappers just put a smile on our face!

We are excited to be bringing a brand new Doisy & Dam product to you in our August box which you can buy right here!

You can also buy D&D at Holland & Barrett, Wholefoods, Amazon, Boots and Sainsbury’s. We have partnered up with Doisy & Dam to exclusively offer 25% off all Doisy & Dam products for the JOMO Club community!
