An honest natural craft tonic

We’ve said it once, we’ve said it again and you know what, we will say it once more (and probably a few more times after that). Mixers are starting to gain the credit they deserve and so they should. All that time is spent choosing your favourite alcohol-free spirit, ready for that moment, and it is paired with a mixer that doesn’t come even close to being great.

Let’s unpack what a great mixer means, for us anyway.

  1. The ingredients. We like to recognise the ingredients in the bottle and make sure they are not packed with unknowns and heaps of sugar.

  2. Flavour. Do you ever sip the mixer from the bottle before you pour it in your drink to see what it tastes like before it goes in there? They all taste different - a mixer isn’t just a mixer.

  3. Ethos. The story and passion behind a mixer or any brand for that matter, is important to us. Whether that be sustainability or how the brand created the mixer - we are totally here for it all.

‘Where are you leading us’ we hear you ask. Well, we want to officially introduce you to Bermondsey Mixers - the coolest mixers in town (they would probably cringe at that introduction - but I went for it anyway).

Bermondsey Mixers featured in JOMO Club’s February Box, both the Tonic and Grapefruit Tonic pairing with Feragaia and as part of the Cocktail of the Month to make a delicious Paloma.

Let’s start by looking at the ingredients.
Bermondsey Mixers are golden in colour unlike the majority of tonic waters which use a solvent extract of tonics key ingredient, quinine. Bermondsey use Cinchona Bark in a raw and natural form creating an amber hue and warm, refreshing flavour.

Now the flavour.
To kick off, they have won Great Taste Awards for their Tonic and Cucumber Tonic, so you don’t have to take just our word for it.

Ethos.
Bermondsey started in a bar. Nick Crispini and Lawrence Mason found that Quinine extract used in most tonics was too overpowering and therefore masked the taste of subtle flavours of the gins used in the Gin Bar, Two One Four. This drove them to create Bermondsey.

When asking Nick and Lawrence how it felt to win Great Taste Awards after putting so much love into their mixers, they responded with, "Winning awards is a nice by product of what we do but I have to say the best feeling is when we get positive feedback from customers and consumers saying nice things about our products. We started making our products because we believed that there should be a higher craft of mixer on the market, and when people reiterate this - it feels great!” That is the nicest response to that question we think we have ever heard.

How do they pair with alcohol-free spirits?

Bermondsey have utilised their experience to create a lighter and crisper tonic and as natural quinine is slightly less bitter than it's solvently extracted cousin, expect a drier, crisper flavour profile.

If you want to try the February Paloma Cocktail of the Month, here’s the recipe to enjoy:

  • 50ml Feragaia

  • Bermondsey Grapefruit Tonic

  • Grapefruit Garnish and a salt rimmed glass

You can buy your own supply on their website with 20% off throughout February using ‘JOMO20’

We hope you enjoy that first amber sip.
