9 Male Celebs Who Live Fully Alcohol-Free

Giving up alcohol can feel like a vulnerable thing to do. It can open you up to being called boring, a party pooper, and all sorts of things, and it can remove a coping mechanism for difficult times. It also often does not feel like the “cool” or easy choice to make. But we are here with a list of nine male celebs who do not drink alcohol but have still managed to capture a huge audience.

So this is your friendly reminder that you do not need to drink alcohol to have fun, to be interesting and to look good. And here are 9 successful men to inspire you on your alcohol-free journey.

1. Brad Pitt

After a messy alcohol-fuelled fight and a divorce with long-term partner Angelina Jolie, heartthrob Brad Pitt realised he needed to make a change. Brad Pitt realised that he was using drugs and alcohol as a pacifier for other deeper mental health issues. He used the divorce as a catalyst to start dealing with life head-on, quitting alcohol and other addictions and learning to feel his emotions again.

2. Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe, a child star who the world watched grow up as Harry Potter, is not the first person you would think of when you think of celebrities struggling with alcohol. However, from the age of about 18 to 21, Radcliffe struggled a lot with alcohol use.

When asked why people didn’t notice it his answer is that people become very adept at hiding addictions. And he certainly hid it well, still filming Harry Potter whilst drinking every evening to handle the fame, like many child stars.

Eventually, he decided it was time to give up alcohol and avoid environments filled with alcohol. He has now said that now he is sober he feels more comfortable with himself. And one of the things he appreciates so much about sobriety is that it allowed him to once more become engrossed with reading.

3. Stephen King

Prolific author Stephen King has not drunk alcohol for over 30 years. Since getting sober in the 1970s after an intervention from family and friends, King has published over sixty books. So clearly sobriety works well for him!

One thing that King says about his sobriety is that it has allowed him to live a more spiritual and moral life. He says when you are sober if you’ve done something that is questionable, you know that it is something you have done. That way you can deal with it, learn from it and seek forgiveness. Whereas when you are drinking it is easy to sweep these things under a rug.

4. Eric Clapton

Musician Eric Clapton had an addiction to alcohol, as well as certain drugs. When his son Conor was born Clapton realised that he needed to deal with his addiction. He said that he would spend his time playing with his child just waiting until the child went to sleep so he could drink. Using Conor as his motivation he was able to give up alcohol and drugs, and even when Conor tragically died aged four, Clapton was able to maintain his sobriety in honour of Conor.

5. Andy Murray

Tennis superstar Andy Murray decided that he was not into alcohol at the age of 16. He was at tennis school in Barcelona, went out for a friend's birthday and had a two-day hangover from hell. After that, he decided alcohol was not for him and would get in the way of his tennis.

7. Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris claims that he was never an alcoholic but did notice that alcohol was affecting his music and his performance. 8. John Mayer

9. Zac Efron

Teen heartthrob Zac Efron, like many other teens thrust into the limelight of stardom, began drinking to cope with the surveillance of fame. He tried to quit several times but was not able to stay alcohol conscious and sober until he had an altercation with a bodyguard and a homeless man. This incident had a huge impact on his life and he checked into rehab to finally kick his addiction.

To keep himself sober and deal with the pressures of fame he now has a strong exercise and health regime and lives a very zen life.
