Any good bartender or alcohol enthusiast should know how to make these basic alcohol-free classic cocktails. With these building blocks, you can unleash your creativity and create all sorts of delicious variations on the classics.

So without further ado, here are 6 classic alcohol-free cocktail recipes for you, so you can get joy out of drinking mocktails.

1. Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is one of the OG cocktails. Back in 1806, a cocktail was defined as a combination of spirit, sugar, bitters and water. And that is exactly what an Old Fashioned is. This is an important basic non-alcoholic cocktail to have in your repertoire!

Ingredients

2 Shots of a Dark alcohol-free spirit. We suggest CROSSIP Dandy Smoke or Lyres American Malt.

5ml White sugar Syrup (make this 1:1 water to white sugar)

2 dashes bitters

Method

  1. Add the bitters, sugar and water to a glass. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  2. Add ice and your non-alcoholic spirit to the glass. Stir this until the drink is well chilled.

  3. Strain the ice and serve the non-alcoholic Old Fashioned in a rocks or lowball glass. Garnish with an orange slice.

2. Martini

The origins of the Martini are not fully clear. But what we do know is that originally the Martini was in fact a sweet drink, it only became the dry Martini we know today around 1905. This alcohol-free cocktail is one of the classics.

Despite James Bond’s claims, the Martini is in fact supposed to be stirred and not shaken. And this is how you can make a completely alcohol-free Martini.

Ingredients

2 shots of non-alcoholic London dry gin such as New London Light ‘First Light’ or Lyres Dry London Spirit

1/2 shot alcohol-free vermouth such as Blutul Bianco “vermouth”, or a dry aperitif such as Lyre’s Aperitif Dry.

1 Dash of orange bitters

Method

  1. Add all the ingredients into a glass with ice.

  2. Stir this until the drink is very cold.

  3. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

  4. Garnish with an olive and live out your sophisticated James Bond dreams!

3. Daiquiri

The Daiquiri often has the reputation of being a brightly coloured, slushy drink used to get drunk quickly on the beach. However, a well-made daiquiri is actually the perfect balance between sweet, sour and citrusy. It is the perfect refreshing drink, and any good bartender should know how to make it. So here is how you can make a basic, alcohol-free daiquiri.

Ingredients

2 1/2 shots of light alcohol-free rum such as Tropical White Cane from MYTH drinks, MARIE LAVEAU or Lyres white cane spirit

1 Shot of freshly squeezed lime juice

1 shot demerara sugar syrup (1:1 water to sugar)

Method

  1. Add all your ingredients to a shaker filled with ice.

  2. Shake the drink until it is fully chilled.

  3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

  4. Add lime zest or a lime slice as garnish.

For a more wintery spin on the Daiquiri try adding a darker rum such as the Caleño Dark and Spicy Rum.

4. Gin Fizz

This drink is very similar to a Sour with sparkling water and can be made in a million different ways. But to truly be able to appreciate the simplicity and deliciousness of this drink you should begin with the traditional Gin Fizz. Once you’ve mastered that then unleash your creativity and see what exciting alcohol-free cocktail you end up with.

Ingredients

2 shots of an alcohol-free gin such as New London Light ‘First Light’ or Pentire

1 shot of freshly squeezed lemon juice

3/4 shot of simple syrup (1:1 sugar and water heated to form a syrup)

1 egg white

Club soda or sparkling water to top

Method

  1. Add the alcohol-free gin, lemon juice, syrup and egg white to a shaker without ice.

  2. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.

  3. Add 3-4 ice cubes and shake until chilled.

  4. Strain into a Collins glass. Then top with soda or sparkling water.

  5. Garnish with an orange or lemon slice, or mint.

There are many versions of the Gin Fizz. To make it more wintery you could add cranberries or cranberry juice, or try topping the glass with ginger ale.

5. Margarita

The Margarita is another classic cocktail with an unclear origin. But many suggest that it was created in Mexico. Regardless of where it came from, there are many variants of the Margarita, but today we want to give you a classic alcohol-free Margarita recipe. From this basic alcohol-free cocktail recipe, you can let your imagination run wild!

Ingredients

2 shots of an alcohol-free white Tequila such as Fleure Drinks' Smoked Agave Non-Alcoholic Spirit or Lyre’s Agave

1/2 shot Alcohol-free orange liqueur such as Lyre’s Orange Sec

1 shot of lime juice

1/2 ounce agave syrup

Method

  1. Optionally, rim your Margarita glass with salt. To do this take a chilled glass, cover the rim with lime juice and then dip it into salt so that the outer edge is covered.

  2. Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

  3. Shake until the drink is well-chilled.

  4. Strain into your Margarita glass and add a garnish.

6. Irish Coffee

The Irish coffee was said to have originated in County Limerick in the 1940s to add some hospitality to the coffee. As the story goes, when asked if the coffee was Brazilian, Joe Sheridan, head chef of the Foynes Flying Boat terminal replied that it was “Irish Coffee” - because of its secret ingredient!

Ingredients

1 Hot fresh coffee

2 tsp Brown Sugar

1 1/2 shots of alcohol-free whiskey such as ArKay Alcohol-Free Irish Whisky

Whipped Cream

Method

  1. Add the brown sugar and alcohol-free whiskey to a warmed Irish Coffee mug.

  2. Stir the coffee into the whiskey and sugar.

  3. Lightly whip your cream (it shouldn’t form peaks) and add it to the top of the drink. If you whip it lightly enough the whipped cream should float.
