20 Kickass Women Who Are Low or No Alcohol Drinkers

Sometimes, when you are sober and choose not to drink alcohol, it can feel like you are a boring person, unwilling to go wild. Now obviously, not drinking alcohol does not make you boring, that would be ridiculous!

But just to remind you of that fact we have compiled a list of 20 kickass women (don’t worry we will also give you some kickass men soon) who are completely sober or are mindful drinkers. If these alcohol-free celebrities don’t need alcohol to live full, interesting lives, neither do you!

1. Blake Lively

Blake Lively, the famous actress who starred in Gossip Girl and Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants, is very openly teetotal. Her reason for this is that she doesn’t like the effects of alcohol on her, and she doesn’t really like the taste either!

2. Brene Brown

Brene Brown, a leading professor from the USA who discusses topics such as shame and vulnerability, gave up alcohol around 26 years ago. She felt like during her teenage and college years, “living hard and wild” actually resulted in addiction.

When writing about her sobriety she says “Today, I’m grateful for my sobriety and the sparkle it brought to my life.”

3. Christine Lagarde

Christine Lagarde has been serving as the president of the European Central Bank since 2019 and is a powerful woman. Lagarde stopped drinking early on in her career, as she claims “I realised that I just couldn’t do it all – travel and work and drink”. And seeing how successful her career has been so far we can only follow her advice!

4. Davina McCall

Davina McCall, a British presenter who famously presented Big Brother had a long struggle with drugs and alcohol during her teenage years. After going through intense family problems and the death of her sister, McCall started drinking and taking drugs to stop feeling.

But when heroin started taking over her life, and she acknowledged that drinking was a gateway drug for her, McCall stopped taking both. She became sober at 25 and shortly afterwards landed her first job at MTV. But, for 20-plus years afterwards McCall regularly attended Alcoholics Anonymous to help keep her off of alcohol.

5. Denise Welch

Loose Women star Denise Welch has officially been sober for 20 years. After her husband, Lincoln quit alcohol, and she had one particularly drunken night at home which he filmed, Welch never touched a drop of alcohol again.

6. Elletra Rossellini Wiedemann

Daughter of stars, Elletra Rossellini Wiedemann, a model, writer and Vogue host, stopped drinking alcohol when she realised that it was causing her to gain weight.

7. Glennon Doyle

Famous author Glennon Doyle writes about deciding to quit alcohol in her newest book Untamed. She realised she was using alcohol as a numbing shield not to feel and says that although life can hurt more without alcohol, being sober doesn’t let you hide from the hard things, which ultimately sets you free.

8. Hannah Reid

Hannah Reid, the stunning voice in London Grammar, chooses to be alcohol-free in order to protect her voice and keep singing healthily and beautifully.

9. Jennifer Lopez

The ionic J-Lo is not fully sober, but she very rarely drinks in order to protect her skin. But she does do things like take a sip of champagne during a toast.

10. Jessie J

Jessie J has had various chronic illnesses her whole life. For a long time, she avoided most alcohol, due to her health conditions. However, she decided to embrace full sobriety to have a clearer mind.

11. Kate Moss

After the premature death of a couple of close friends, supermodel Kate Moss decided to quit alcohol and start embracing a healthy lifestyle.

12. Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian swore off alcohol after visiting her sister Kourtney at the University of Arizona. She hated the wild parties and the impact that alcohol had. For years she was the designated driver of the family. Nowadays she is not completely teetotal. She will have a glass of champagne on occasion.

13. Konnie Huq

Konnie Huq, British TV and radio presenter, famous for her work on Blue Peter, was brought up as “culturally Muslim” so her family did not drink alcohol. She says she was never taught the mentality that requires alcohol to relax and the taste just doesn’t appeal to her.

14. Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis, a famous singer, does not drink because she doesn’t like the taste of alcohol. In fact, she’s even gone as far as to say that it tastes like hairspray!

15. Madonna

Madonna is another one on the list who is not fully sober, but more of a mindful drinker. Whilst she absolutely never drinks on tour so that she can stay focussed, she does drink moderately and mindfully at other times.

16. Sarah Millican

Comedian Sarah Millican spends an entire chapter talking about why she doesn’t drink in her autobiography. But what it really comes down to is that she was fed up with hangovers and wasting half or full days on hangovers, which seems very fair to me!

17. Shakira

Shakira does not drink alcohol or caffeine. When she was just two years old her brother was killed by a drunk driver.

18. Shania Twain

Growing up as a country musician in and out of bars it's surprising that Shania Twain does not drink. But she claims that she just doesn’t have any interest in alcohol or drinking.

19. Stacey Dooley

TV presenter and investigator Stacey Dooley spent a lot of her underage years “getting pissed” in the park. But when she grew up a little she says that alcohol didn’t have the same “naughty factor” anymore, so she just stopped drinking.

20. Tyra Banks

TV personality, model and businesswoman Tyra Banks has not had alcohol since she tried a few sips in 2012 and hated the taste.

As you can see. There is a whole range of reasons why people give up alcohol, or just never started drinking. And many of the most admired people in the world don’t drink a drop of alcohol.
